NØF Communications Channel. Join here

The newly launched NØF Communications channel is now open to all NØF members. After the Norwegian Oikos Conference in Bodø 2025, a group of scientists started the networking channel NØF Communications. The idea behind the group is to give scientists interested in communicating ecological science to policymakers and the public the opportunity to learn, network and improve their communication skills.

With the biodiversity and climate crises increasingly taking up space in our newspapers and daily lives, politicians, resource managers and conservationists are rushing to implement policies that can halt widespread ecosystem decline. Effective environmental policy is urgently needed, and requires up-to-date scientific knowledge.

This means that scientists must communicate clearly and efficiently with policy makers from all walks of life, as well as the public. We need expert voices to be heard on the nature of the biodiversity crisis, and exactly what we need to do to stop it.

That’s why NØF Communications was started. We are building this network for scientists working in Norway to identify and work together on communication initiatives about the role of ecology in Norwegian society (and beyond), as well as to share and learn scientific communication skills. The network is a place for picking up tips, finding sources and keeping up to date with news, and fostering collaborations and learning initiatives among scientists with all levels of experience. If you’d like to learn more about how Norwegian politics affect Norwegian biodiversity, and vice versa, it’s a great avenue for discussion. In the wake of the recent election, now is the time to get involved!

The network is currently on Slack, with separate channels set up for a range of different purposes. If you’ve never used Slack before, we’ve constructed some easy How-To videos and documents to make the entry threshold as low as possible. If you’d like to join, we’ve attached a registration link below.

If you have any questions about the network, please get in touch with either Raghnild Gya (ragnhild.gya@uib.no) or Sam Wenaas Perrin (sam.perrin@ntnu.no).
